This medal will be on permanent display at the memorial building, commemorating his sacrifice and serving as a symbol of courage for generations to come.

Born in Pocatello on January 1, 1926, Sgt. James E. Johnson became a true American hero through his extraordinary actions during the Korean War. He fought bravely in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, a significant and challenging battle, where he ultimately gave his life in the line of duty. Sgt. Johnson was declared missing in action and presumed killed on December 2, 1950, at the young age of 24. For his acts of valor, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 1954.

This unveiling ceremony is not only a tribute to Sgt. Johnson but also an opportunity for the community to come together and honor all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Please join us for this patriotic welcome at the Pocatello Regional Airport at 4:30 p.m. as Stephanie returns to her father’s hometown to honor his legacy.

Who Was Sgt. James E. Johnson?

Sgt. James E.
