Welcome Stephanie McKay Johnson to Pocatello – Honoring Her Father, Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. James E. Johnson

On Friday, November 1, 2024, the Pocatello community has a unique opportunity to honor one of its own, as we welcome Stephanie McKay Johnson, daughter of Sgt. James E. Johnson, Medal of Honor recipient. Sgt. Johnson, born and raised in Pocatello, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his incredible bravery during the Korean War.

Please join us for this patriotic welcome at the Pocatello Regional Airport at 4:30 p.m. as Stephanie returns to her father’s hometown to honor his legacy.

Who Was Sgt. James E. Johnson?

Sgt. James E. Johnson was a Pocatello native who displayed extraordinary courage during the Korean War, particularly at the Chosin Reservoir in December 1950, where he was declared missing in action and presumed killed. At the age of just 24, he made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country. His actions earned him the Medal of Honor, which he was posthumously awarded in 1954.
