Support the Newby-Ginnings Capital Campaign – Expanding Services for Veterans

Help Newby-Ginnings Grow: Support Veterans in Post Falls, ID

Join Us in Making a Difference

Since October 15, 2013, Newby-Ginnings of North Idaho, Inc. has been a lifeline for Veterans, Active Service Members, and Gold Star families. What started in a small dining room has grown into a support center helping over 6,500 military families with food, clothing, and essential supplies.

Every day, 175 to 200 people visit Newby-Ginnings, not just for help, but for dignity and hope.

But now, we need your help. The demand for support keeps growing, and our current building is too small. That’s why we’re launching a Capital Campaign to buy a larger facility—so we can continue serving those who served us.

Why We Need a Bigger Space

🏠 We’re Running Out of Room – The current space, in use since 2016, is too small for the growing number of Veterans and families who need help.

📦 More Storage Needed – A bigger facility will help organize donations better, so we never have to turn away supplies due to lack of space.

🤝 A New Veteran Community Center – With more room, we plan to offer more services, bringing in community partners to support Veterans and their families in even more ways.

Newby-Ginnings is committed to helping—but we can’t do it alone.

Ways You Can Help

💰 Donate – Every tax-deductible dollar helps us get closer to a larger, better facility for Veterans.

🔄 Give Monthly – Pledge ongoing support to keep this mission strong.

🏢 Business Sponsorships – Companies can partner with us to make a big impact.

📢 Spread the Word – Share this campaign with friends, family, and colleagues. The more people who know, the faster we can make this happen!

📍 Newby-Ginnings of North Idaho, Inc.
📌 570 S Clearwater Loop Unit A, Post Falls, ID 83854

The good news is that as a veteran, you have access to free career certifications that can help you succeed in your new career path. In this post, we will guide you through the steps to access these valuable resources.

Why Career Certifications Matter

Career certifications validate your skills and knowledge in a specific field. They make your resume stand out to employers and can lead to higher salaries and better job opportunities. For veterans, certifications can bridge the gap between military experience and civilian job requirements.

Top Free Certification Programs for Veterans

1. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Programs

The VA offers several educational benefits that can be used for career certifications. Programs like the GI Bill provide funding for vocational training and certification courses. Visit the VA website to explore your eligibility and available programs.

2. Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)

WIOA is a federal program that provides training and education to veterans looking to enter the civilian workforce. It covers various certifications in fields such as information technology, healthcare, and skilled trades.

3. SkillBridge

SkillBridge allows service members to gain civilian work experience through internships and apprenticeships during their last 180 days of service. This program can help you earn certifications while still in the military.

4. Online Platforms and Scholarships

Websites like Coursera, edX, and Udemy offer free or discounted courses for veterans. Additionally, many organizations provide scholarships specifically for veterans pursuing certifications in high-demand fields.

Steps to Access Free Career Certifications

1. Assess Your Career Goals

Start by identifying the career path you want to pursue. Understanding your goals will help you choose the right certifications that align with your desired field.

2. Research Available Programs

Look into the free certification programs offered by the VA, WIOA, SkillBridge, and online platforms. Make a list of programs that match your career interests.

3. Check Eligibility Requirements

Each program has its own set of eligibility criteria. Ensure you meet the necessary requirements before applying. This may include your service duration, discharge status, and educational background.

4. Apply for Programs and Certifications

Once you’ve identified suitable programs, follow the application instructions carefully. Gather all required documents, such as your DD-214 form, and submit your applications before the deadlines.

5. Utilize Veteran Support Services

Many organizations offer support services for veterans seeking certifications. Reach out to local veteran centers or online platforms like the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for assistance and guidance.

Tips for Success

Writing Therapy for Veterans: Healing Through Words

Writing Therapy for Veterans: Healing Through Words

Many veterans return home after serving their country, but the challenges they face don’t end there. Adjusting to civilian life can be tough, and some veterans experience feelings of stress, anxiety, or sadness. One powerful tool that can help is writing therapy. By putting their thoughts and feelings into words, veterans can find a path to healing and peace.

What is Writing Therapy?

Writing therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses writing to help individuals explore their emotions, reduce stress, and gain insights into their experiences. It doesn’t require professional writing skills—just a willingness to express oneself.

Benefits of Writing Therapy for Veterans

  • Emotional Release: Writing allows veterans to release pent-up emotions, which can reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.
  • Self-Reflection: Journaling helps veterans reflect on their experiences and understand their feelings better.
  • Stress Reduction: Putting thoughts on paper can alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
  • Improved Communication: Writing regularly can enhance a veteran’s ability to communicate their thoughts and feelings to others.
  • Personal Growth: Writing therapy can lead to personal insights and growth, fostering a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

How to Get Started with Writing Therapy

Starting writing therapy is simple. Here are some steps to help veterans begin their journey:

  1. Find a Quiet Space: Choose a comfortable and quiet place where you can write without interruptions.
  2. Set Aside Time: Dedicate a specific time each day for writing, even if it’s just 10 minutes.
  3. Use Prompts: If you’re unsure what to write about, use prompts like “Today I felt…” or “My proudest moment was…”.
  4. Be Honest: Write honestly about your feelings and experiences. There’s no right or wrong way to do this.
  5. Reflect: After writing, take a moment to read what you’ve written and reflect on it.

Stories of Healing Through Writing

Many veterans have found solace in writing therapy. For example, John, a former soldier, started journaling to cope with his experiences. Over time, he noticed a significant decrease in his anxiety levels and gained a deeper understanding of his emotions. Jane, another veteran, used writing to reconnect with her family by sharing her thoughts and feelings more openly.

Getting Support

If you’re interested in writing therapy, consider joining a writing group or seeking guidance from a therapist who specializes in expressive therapies. The Disabled American Veterans of Idaho offers resources and support to help veterans on their healing journey.

Conclusion

Writing therapy is a simple yet effective way for veterans to heal and find peace through words. By expressing emotions, reflecting on experiences, and communicating openly, veterans can navigate the challenges of reintegrating into civilian life with greater resilience and hope.
